Impressively stiff alloy cranks but chainrings let down the shifting quality

Tune are well known for their exquisite craftsmanship with aluminium alloy, and their new cranks are a welcome modern take on that.

With a 30mm steel axle and cranks made from grain-aligned cold-forged billets, they’re impressively stiff for the weight.

Where the chainset as a whole is let down, though, is in the quality of shifting. The outer ring isn’t quite stiff enough to keep up with the standards set by other compacts.

Tune are working on new chainrings but they won’t be ready for a couple of months. We’d suggest you buy other chainrings, as the Smart Foot cranks are available without rings for £420.
