The 337g Lazer Genesis RD special-edition Belgian national team helmet is the first to fit my head comfortably after hours in the saddle, and its simple retention system is a boon, especially in colder weather.
Indeed, it's not often a Belgo-American like me finds something that looks cool, fits nicely, and performs beyond expectation while representing my European heritage and being used by 2005 world champion Tom Boonen's Quick-Step team.
Lazer's Rollsys Fit System uses a thumb wheel integrated into the top back side of the shell, connected to narrow cable that adjusts the retention system with one hand. This eliminates pinch points, something most other helmets suffer from, and has been quite handy when trying to make on-the-fly adjustments with cold-weather gloves.
Verdict
The US$175, 19-vent Lazer Genesis RD comes in two sizes, XS/MED (50-57cm) and L/XL (58-61cm). My large skull could tolerate the Genesis fit for hours, and although Specialized, Bell and Giro have a solid stranglehold on the US and UK protection markets, and offer models lighter than the Genesis, Lazer could certainly turn some heads with its fine form and uncomplicated technology.
