The MaxxD has always been a cost-is-no-object favourite and Exposure sneaked us the latest Mk10 version ahead of official release to prove it's not letting go of that accolade any time soon.
The latest evolution of this UK-made light retains the self-contained design that totally removes any cable or battery placement or paint damage worries. The metal quick-release clamp now fits 35 and 31.8mm bars too, although the very short clamping bolt is still a pain to engage at first.
The three-spot, one-diffused LED array gives a healthy pattern of light for fast riding or picking your way through technical terrain. The MK10 sees the four LED output creeping up to a 3,300 lumen max in the super-clever Reflex mode. This uses built-in accelerometers to automatically increase power when it senses faster/rougher riding, but throttle back on smoother terrain.
The fully stopped mode is much dimmer to save battery life. This means while the continuous high power run-time we’ve listed is under two hours, you can expect more than three hours riding from even the most powerful Reflex mode.

Conventional run-time rationing is also easy through a multiple-mode menu selected via the stainless-steel back button or optional plug-in or cabled remote switches. There’s a SYNC version due out shortly (£424.96) that’s controlled via a smartphone app too. USB charging cables, supplementary batteries and the aerial for the wireless remote can all be plugged into the ‘Smart Port’ plug on the back.
Reliability is impressive for such a sophisticated light and direct manufacturer back-up is great. Exposure also attend most major 24hr or night-riding events (plus some daylight ones too) to give on-site back-up, as well as the chance to hire and try the lights before you buy.
That makes the MaXx D and other Exposure lights strong value for keen night riders, even if their basic cost to Lumen output is relatively low.
