One of the advantages of carbon fibre is that a clever designer can engineer the material to flex, and tune exactly how that flex behaves, while also making it strong enough to do its original job. This is what Storck have done with their new Comfort and Ultra Comfort seatposts, and it works – very well.
You can see and feel the deflection in these posts when you hit a bump, but what’s most impressive about the way they work is how well-controlled the movement is when they spring. On smaller bumps and rough road surfaces they both do a great job of dulling road buzz, but they also manage to take the sting out of bigger hits such as sneaky sunken manhole covers surprisingly well. Yet at no point do they give a flexy or springy feeling to the ride.
The two-bolt head is simple to use and accepts tall and large diameter seat rails with ease. It also offers plenty of support, and there are no sharp edges to rub against the rails. Both seatposts are 31.6mm diameter and 400mm long, and there’s no rider weight limit – which one suits will depend on your weight and comfort needs; the Ultra Comfort is ideal for lighter riders, while the Comfort is for taller or heaver riders.
