Look’s new Quartz pedals now have firmer springs, and use a sprung front rather than rear bar. They’re pretty light for the price.
The cleat system is fiddly, with wafer-thin shims to position between the cleat and midsole. Get it right and the system works well, with a clean exit and entry.
Feel is still a bit vague compared to the click of a Shimano SPD pedal, though, and the feeling of the sprung front bar does take some getting used to after rear-sprung SPD designs.
Bearings are smooth and sealing is good, but we’ve had to service a pair of Quartzes after one hard winter of use.
