A female cyclist is reported to have been killed on the notorious Bow Roundabout in East London this morning – the third rider to die this week in the capital.
The as yet unnamed cyclist was involved in the collision with a lorry that happened at 8:45am on the roundabout which is part of the controversial Cycle Superhighway 2.
The news – reported on the BBC – comes weeks after a coroner sent a report to the London Mayor Boris Johnson urging him to revise the western end of the CS2 to prevent future deaths.
Yesterday, a cyclist died in a collision with a coach in Croydon, south London. And on Monday, news emerged that a prominent architect, Francis Golding, had died after colliding with a coach in Holburn, London.
In October 2011, Brian Dorling was killed at the Bow Roundabout.
Just last week and the unveiling of the first completely segregated Cycle Superhighway, Johnson promised to prioritise a redevelopment of the CS2 between Bow roundabout and the Aldgate Gyratory. Work is expected to be complete by 2015.
Today's fatality takes the number of cyclist deaths in London to 12 since the start of the year.
